Riftbreaker
A downloadable game for Windows
Extremely incomplete and probably broken. :(
Use WASD to move the camera around, Q and E to rotate the camera, TAB to snap back to the selected unit. You can click on a unit or the unit's HUD icon to select it.
Hostages can be interacted with when standing next to them. They will join the party but are very squishy. They do provide a perk though, so keep them close and safe.
The levels are procedurally generated with hand-crafted rooms and will contain at least one room with a hostage and one exit room. The exit room has a portal looking thing on the floor. You can interact with it to complete the level and move on to another, provided there are no enemies in the vicinity and the whole (surviving) party is nearby.
This game is heavily based on Code Monkey's Turn-based Strategy course on GameDev.tv and is extremely incomplete. We've tried to provide a game loop, but things like progression, more diverse characters, etc. are all missing. There is a story - provided by our friendly ChatGPT - that is also not really evident from what we have here.
We used fmod for the first time ever and while we had a great adaptive soundtrack, it used 'paid for' loops and samples that we couldn't use. So we spent 2 days trying to get free music that worked and eventually just dropped a premade track into the game instead.
Even though we made the game with Unity's URP, the browsers just didn't want to play nice with anything, so we abandoned trying to make a webgl build.
